The soft current was slowly pushing me along. Schools of fish swam bye in perfect unison. Everything was peaceful in Lake Michigan. Swoosh! A rush of water. Everything was swirling at once. I frantically looked around until I spotted the dark outline of… the Alligator Gar. It was hot on the tail of a large mouth bass swimming for it’s life. The hard jaws finally closed around the bass. It was over. These were dangerous times for smaller fish like me. Just as I was thinking my friend swam up next to me and asked if I saw the Alligator Gar. He was a small mouth bass like myself; he had shining silver scales and a red-fanned tail. Right then I decided I was going to journey to the other side of the lake. “Alrighty then good luck Rutae.” He responded.
The evil Alligator Gar
The next day I was off on my journey. Swimming the first day was rough and I was deeply disturbed at what I saw. As I was swimming I saw a pike with a large black spot on it. The pike looked deathly sick and was swimming slowly. I looked closer and saw it was a lamprey, the parasite of the lake. The pike would probably die very soon.
The vicious Lamprey
After a hard day of traveling I took a rest. The next day high noon I reached the oxygen fields as they were called. This spot was rich in oxygen caused by the immense amount of plants. They gained sunlight and gave out tons of oxygen
On my final day of traveling I made it to the Promised Land, the other side of the lake. I saw beautiful spots of grasses, the sunlight streamed down into the water flickering on the lake floor. It’s good to be home. ygen.
